6 to go!

I only have 6 more books to shift and I will reach the 1,000 mark! I am really looking forward to seeing the counter get there- lets hope it is soon.

Book Giveaway Over/Reading Update/Crowbar Junction/Stag Weekend

The Goodreads Book Giveaway for 5 copies of ‘Michelin’ is over.  There were 556 entries in the end which I am very happy with.  The books will be with the winners in the next week or so.  I think it was a good way to get some exposure for the book so I think I will use this feature again in the future.

I am halfway through ‘The Corrections’ now and I have not been disappointed so far.  It is odd to think that I have known of this books existence and reputation for years and yet I had no idea what was contained within its pages, I didn’t have a clue what the story was about and I am glad I came in blind to it.

I have begun on the 3rd Draft of Crowbar Juntion.  I have pulled the manuscript apart so that I can read each charaters story as a whole unit outside of the flow of the story.  I am hoping though this to be able to strengthen some parts and fix any irregularities or dropped threads I might come across.  I have set myself an imaginary deadline of December 31st 2013 to have the novel fully finished so that I can start on my next book on January 1st (and hopefully write a little everyday next year!)

I was talking to my best man the other night and we decided that we better get cracking on my stag weekend.  I have decided on Kilkenny as I like the place and it is only about an hour away on the train.  It will be at the end of November which is about 5 or 6 weeks before the wedding.  Now we just have to get invitations and that kind of thing sorted.

Reading Update/Michelin Competition/Harrison/Free Novella Saturday

Since I updated last I have finished ‘The Master and Margarita’ it is and excellent book but I did think that it waned a little towards the end.  I would definitely recommend it to anyone though.

When I finished this I read a little novel by a Norwegian writer Dag Solstad called ‘Professor Anderson’s Night.’  This book has terribly mixed reviews but I found it very interesting.  It is about a 55 year old Professor who witnesses a murder but who cannot bring himself to report it.  I thought it was quite good.

Last night I started reading ‘The Corrections’ by Jonathan Franzen.  It has had such media and review hype over the years that I really hope that I like it now.  I have only read a book of essays by Franzen before so I have no experience of his fiction.  I’ll let you know what I think when I am through.

There is currently a competition running until the 28th of August at Goodreads.com where you can win a paperback copy of my latest novella ‘Michelin.’  There are currently 110 entries.

Harrison is as cute as ever but he is really growing all of a sudden on this new food.  He is sleeping better now as well and he is just starting to teeth.  I hope the teething isn’t to hard for him; one of my nephews has a terrible time with this and it was hard to see him cry so much from the pain so it would be even harder to see Harrison crying in that way.  Fingers crossed he gets on ok with it.

‘The Case for Skeletons’ will be free for download from all amazon stores this Saturday.
